31 Days of Sensational Shops - Stormwolf Studios

31 Days of Sensational Shops is a month long tour of geeky, fantasy and/or monster-filled shops in December. Please stick around to learn more about today's Sensational Shop!

Today's Sensational Shop is Stormwolf Studios - run by Georgia Horesh!

Tell us about you - the creator!

I've been a traditional artist most of my life, focusing on fantasy illustrations and living among the mythology of my imagination. I use markers, watercolor, oil paint and digital media to create my pieces. Influenced by fantasy, science fiction, comics and anime, my work spans many genres. I later became inspired to put together hardware in new ways that changed their aspect and elevated their status from object to jewelry and expanded into that. I had been going to conventions since 1995 and selling my work and I decided to create shops where people who couldn't come see me on the road, could see my work.

Describe your shop and what you sell

I have two focuses on my shops.

My storenvy shop is primarily for prints of my illustrations. The subjects range from fairies, to warriors and even the Chinese Zodiac. My most popular pieces have always been my baby dragon sets which are also available in the shop - featuring fearsome creatures in their young, cute, hatchling stage. Almost all are done in watercolor. These prints are on high quality paper.

My etsy shop is primarily for my jewelry. The pieces range in all types, with earrings, necklaces and bracelets for men and women. The styles vary from steampunk to goth to modern so there is always something for everyone there!

What is your product to make? Why?

My favorite item to make is my cute baby animals. They are all fantasy and mythological creatures so there are no limits on how I want to portray them. The fun of it, is making them small and close to newborn with large eyes and a curiosity of the world. This is a creature before the legends and stories begin so they can grow to be whatever a person imagines them to be. Its definitely one of the more enjoyable creative processes I go through and can sometimes be a challenge!

How and when did you start your business?

I began selling art at conventions in 1996, but didn't really start my business till about 1998, when I took it seriously. I began keeping track of sales, using receipts for sales and keeping receipts from expenses. I saw the potential of being a professional artist rather than just doing it for fun or enjoyment. I saw it as a way to make a living which brought it to a new level. I claimed my earnings in my taxes and had Stormwolf Studios listed as a business. It isn't easy to be both artist and business person but you do your best to find a balance - sometimes being more successful than others.

Anything else you would like to add?

I love being able to create things, but even better is seeing people enjoy the items they purchase from me, whether its a print of one of my fairies or a pair of my earrings. Their smile makes whatever stress I feel, all worth while.
