A Website: Do You Need One to Sell Pinback Buttons?

Do you need to have a website in order to sell pinback buttons? Let’s consider it!

No, you do not need to have a website in order to sell pinback buttons.

What is your goal? Do you want to be successful at craft shows and conventions or do you want to be successful at your website online?

You can be successful at both but, in the beginning you will have to choose. When you are working on your business by yourself without any help you will need to decide what to focus on.

Focus is key. I tried to do both in the beginning. It didn’t go well. I didn’t focus on my audience. I made only what I wanted to make. It didn’t work out for me, particularly since I’m an introvert and prefer staying home.

Whereas one of my friends, her goal is to be awesome at conventions. She wants to hire someone to do her website for her.

Decide what your goals are first before you consider which type of website to build.

There are different ways you can go for starting a website. You can have your items on Etsy or Storenvy or Zazzle or many other ecommerce sites.

E-commerce Pros:

They do all the coding, updating, security, etc work. You just need to make sure that your listings are good in terms of photography and copy. You don’t have to worry about the website design or the layout.

E-commerce Cons:

You have less control over the layout of your shop.

If either of these places tank, so do your listings.

Please, please please, make a backup of all your copy! If the websites go down, you want to make sure you have all of your hard work!

I highly recommend you save a copy of your orders as well. Customer email addresses are gold!

Having your own website is another option.

Self-hosting Pros:

More customizable

More control

Self-hosting Cons:

You need to update and maintain everything

You need to pay for hosting, SSL, security, etc.
