10 Ways to Use Twitter for Small Business

Twitter has by far has been the site that brings the most referrals to my shop. I'd like to share with you 10 ways you can use Twitter for your small business.

10 Ways to Use Twitter for Your Small Business - www.littlehouseofcrafting.com

  1. Twitter Chats - Twitter chats are a great way to network with other business owners. Chats such as #omhg and #indiealist can help you read the pulse of a community before you consider joining it.  You can also commune with your target audience regarding similar interests; i.e #nerdyslumberparty. Finally, you can make your own hashtags with a friend or two or more! to help everyone follow along with your shenanigans! This is great for movie watch-a-longs with online friends.
  2. Share interesting articles - Klout.com is a great resource for articles. You can sort based on interest and it even helps you schedule your sharing based on when your followers are most active!
  3. Crosspost from other social media - IFTTT.com is my favorite way to cross post from other social media. With IFTTT, I share links and pictures from my Facebook page. And, my favorite feature, you can share pictures (yes, pictures!) from your Instagram! No more link only posts!
  4. Converse and engage - You have followers. Converse and engage with them! Ask questions! Scroll through your feed and favorite, retweet and reply those you follow. Social media is social!
  5. Share blog posts - Share your blog posts with your followers. Show your excitement for your new post and share the link!
  6. Share your works in progress - #wipwednesday is a great way to show your followers what you're up to! #makeitmonday is another opportunity. Make sure you expore the hashtag yourself and see what other makers are up to!
  7. Advertise - Use the 80/20 rule when you advertise. Have your content be 20% advertising and 80% engagement, article sharing, conversations, etc. Have your advertising be original too. Don't just rely on Etsy or your ecommerce site to do it for you. Put you in it!
  8. Engage with your hopefuls - If you've been eying a blog, website or magazine to feature your products be sure to follow them on Twitter and give them some love! Make a Twitter list of your hopefuls and visit it a couple times per day. Favorite, retweet and interact with their tweets. Thank and share your feature when it happens!
  9. Tweet at the right times - Use SocialBro to tweet at the right times of the day. You will see results!
  10. Organize your Twitter feed - Use TweetDeck or Hootsuite to organize your Twitter feed. This makes using Twitter more manageable as you can have tabs for your feed, Twitter chat hashtags, your notifications, etc.
This is in no way an inclusive list. If you have other ways you use Twitter for your small business I'd love to see in the comments!
